Continuing on with MMM’s Doctor Who Season 1 Project, the next story is the undisputed classic, The Aztecs.

The TARDIS crew arrive in Mexico in the 15th Century. With the TARDIS trapped in a tomb, Barbara is mistaken for a female reincarnation of the ancient high priest Yetaxa, and assumes her guise and identity. From her new position of power, Barbara sees her chance to bring an end to human sacrifice. She sees the good side of Aztec culture manifested in Autloc, the High Priest of Knowledge, and the gruesome side embodied in ‘the local butcher’, the High Priest of Sacrifice, Tlotoxl. As something of an expert on this period, she sees how advanced their culture really is and believes that if sacrifice were abolished, they would be spared destruction at the hands of the Spanish. The Doctor’s urgent warnings that Barbara cannot change history fall on deaf ears, much to the Doctor’s fury.

This release is Episode 1 – The Temple of Evil. Tony, Geoff and Gecko hold your hand and guide you through this first episode.

MMM is proud to bring you our continuing series of commentary tracks from Season 1 of Doctor Who. This week starts our look at the fourth ever story of Doctor Who – Marco Polo.

Bit of a tricky one this one. A bit of a first for MMM – this is the first time ever we have done a commentary for a story that has never had an official release, anywhere. It’s a missing story you see, the BBC decided in their wisdom to get rid of it.

But luckily some enterprising chaps took many photos of the actual video when it existed, and a lot of other enterprising chaps made audio recordings of the episodes. Put them together and you have a missing episode reconstruction, which you can quite easily get hold of if you are handy with a particular type of search engine and know how to type in the words Marco Polo.

So please, source out one of the many excellent reconstructions of Marco Polo then join along with the MMM team.

After spending a few weeks with Edward Woodward, Steven Spielberg and Matt Smith, the MMM team return to their first love – classic Doctor Who.

So for the next few weeks kick back with the boys and listen to their commentaries on the first season of Doctor Who, all the way back in 1963.

Where better to start than at the beginning with the episode that started it all. William Hartnell, the mysterious grandfather with a yunkyard and many secrets, and his intrepid companions, grand-daughter Susan and reluctant travellers Ian and Barbara.

Over the coming fortnight MMM will release commentaries for all four episodes of this first ever Doctor Who adventure.

The MMM team return to the familiar and comforting well of Doctor Who and provide a commentary for one of their favourite episodes of the most recent season – the Season 6 story The Girl Who Waited.

In the episode, alien time traveller the Doctor (Matt Smith) takes his companions Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) and her husband Rory (Arthur Darvill) to the planet Apalapucia for a holiday, but the find that the planet is on quarantine as the two-hearted natives are susceptible to a deadly plague. Amy accidentally gets separated from the Doctor and Rory but when they try to rescue her they arrive 36 years later in her timeline. The older Amy does not trust the Doctor, who is forced to remain on the TARDIS as he also has two hearts, and will not allow the Doctor and Rory leave and rescue her at the correct point in her timeline.

Tony and Geoff take you through a slice of current Doctor Who, MMM style.

Sarah Jane has met Peter Dalton and wants him to become part of her life, perhaps he could become a father to Luke. But Clyde suspects that Peter is hiding a secret or two, especially when he and Rani find an empty house where Peter says his home should be.

Yes, we did this episode for the obvious reasons – its got HIM in it.

The Doctor finally makes an appearance in this highly successful Doctor Who spinoff series, and the MMM team is here to talk about it.

With the entire planet in the throes of Tennnant-mania presently it seemed fitting to provide you lucky people with a commentary track for one of the most talked about episodes of recent times – Waters of Mars.

Has the Doctor gone too far this time? Is he teetering on the edge of a precipice of emotions he cannot pull back from?

Well, never fear. We were just waiting for this particular anniversary to roll around… ummm… which anniversary you say? Umm….

The 2nd anniversary of the morning RTD said “Hey, do any of you lovely boys want to go on a MARVELLOUS trip to Rome?”

And so The Fires of Pompeii was born! A story with psychics, revelations and… fire, it’s the obligatory historical (yet not historical) story for this season.

Trevor, Tony and Geoff (with David sniggering and sleeping in the background) take you through this, the first of two commentaries for stories from this last full season for the 10th Doctor, David Tennant.

The Fires of Pompeii – I mean with a name like Pyrovores where else are they going to be?

MMM continues the trip down Sylvester lane with our second movie-length opus – Curse of Fenric. Similar to Battlefield – which means it has another mustachioed military figure, lots of continuity and of course a sighting of Pepsi The Dog.

Fenric was much admired and analysed on release and many years later the boys analyse what it all meant, where it was all going and was the “risque” sex scene really worth it? ( a second hand isn’t that fast anyway – maybe that’s the point!)

We really like a lot of this era and Fenric is a particular favourite – but real rain still looks better than the old garden hose.

Now quite often the Doctor Who releases have commentaries – but we found a loophole! The movie version of Battlefield doesn’t have one! So to redress the perception out there that we hate McCoy, have a listen to our commentary for the movie version of Battlefield and see what we think of the question-marked umbrella guy.

Way back in 1971, Barry Letts rescued our beloved show from certain cancellation and worked to make the new season more family friendly. This was achieved by including lots of murders, killer policemen, a lead character who looked like Satan and a story so violent it was questioned in the House of Lords. MMM are proud to present the first two episodes of one of the most controversial stories of all time that features suffocation, asphyxiation, elevation and maybe even castration. And we haven’t even got to the CSO.

In response to the positive feedback on our Lost in Time series of alternate commentaries, the MMM team has returned to that particular well and produced another commentary for a story that unfortunately only has one episode remaining in the BBC Archives – Evil of the Daleks.

We join the action in episode 2 with the Doctor and Jamie following a series of clues which has led them to the shop of the mysterious Theodore Maxtible, who seems to have some very unwelcome house guests.

MMM Commentaries is proud to present a commentary for the first episode of a story that put Doctor Who on the map as it were – The Daleks episode 1 – The Dead Planet.

The ship has arrived in a petrified forest on an apparently dead planet. Exploring, the travellers see a fantastic city in the distance. The Doctor wants to investigate further, but Ian and Barbara veto this idea, insisting that they return to the TARDIS. The old man eventually gets his own way by resorting to a trick: he claims that one of the ship’s vital components, a fluid link, needs refilling with mercury, and that the only place this might be found is the city.

Join David as he talks you through an intimate and informative journey through an episode which gave us our first glimpse of the enemies that have become arguably the most iconic alien creature in sci-fi history.

Lost to Doctor Who fans for many years, this episode finally reveals just how do you make a seaweed creature with a personality.

We are proud to bring you the first of five very special commentaries over the next few weeks, as part of our Doctor Who – Lost in Time project.

In the days before VHS and the booming home sales market for material the BBC decided that nobody wanted these old black and white episodes gathering dust in their vaults, so they started a systematic process of destroying these old episodes, Doctor Who amongst them.

It wasn’t until the early 70s when the efforts of determined fans like Ian Levine stopped this incredibly shortsighted practice and these classic episodes were left further unmolested. It was only through the diligent efforts of such fans and a now enlightened BBC that other copies of these destroyed episodes were uncovered around the world.

But even with these valiant efforts, many older Doctor Who stories remain incomplete, in some cases no episodes exist at all. What the Lost in Time DVD boxset does is collect these orphaned episodes together in one release for all of us to enjoy.

So the MMM Lost in Time project is about providing commentaries for the episodes on this release that were not graced with an officially released commentary. Join the team as we tackle the first of these gems – The Crusade episode 1 – otherwise known as The Lion.

Keep an eye out over the coming weeks as we delve further into this DVD collection – a collection that should be on every sci-fi fans shelf and present to you some fascinating insights into these sadly incomplete and neglected stories.

The Sontarans and Chessini have kidnapped The Doctor’s second incarnation and conduct a genetic operation on him to discover the secrets of time travel. Tthe Doctor, Peri and the abandoned Jamie follow the trail to Seville on Earth, where Chessini plots to spread her malice through time and space….
