How often do you hear people even mention ‘The Great Muppet Caper’? If ever there were an overlooked or forgotten classic it would be this, the second of the two Muppet movies made while the show was in production, and the grand and wonderful finale to that Muppet era. It would never be this mad or golden again until ‘The Muppets’ premiered in 2011. And even ‘The Muppets’ was certainly not weird enough to be from the Golden Age!

For this commentary we trapped Oli, Rich and Abi deep in the Film Bin Dungeon, supplied with only mangoes and coconut milk. They weren’t unwilling, as they do love the Muppets and chattered on amiably about Grodin’s passion for Miss Piggy, Piggy’s delusional episode, bicycles, and all the wondrous madness of the maddest Muppet movie. So, Kermit and Fozzie are identical twins? Oh, of course, I forgot the hat!

You have to use exclamations a lot with ‘The Great Muppet Caper’. Soon we shall complete the golden twosome and do ‘The Muppet Movie’ too. There was no way on Earth this movie would go back into the Film Disposal Unit and it now takes pride of place on the shelf of madness. They don’t make things like this any more.

Oliver Harper and Richard Jackson watch the 80s classic The Terminator. Prepare for some Geek overload!.

There’s nothing we love more than talking over a movie, especially an eminently mockable sci-fi or fantasy film from our childhood.

We usually do it at home, laughing at the old-school special effects and complete lack of plot or character.

But this time we’ve done it with an audio recorder so you can join in with us. As well as the usual nerds – Joel and Andrew – we’ve also invited our friends Trent Swindells and Tony Menzie to join the commentary crew.

To make this work, here’s what you have to do:

- Grab a copy of Clash of the Titans – make sure it’s the original 1981 version, not the recent remake.

- Get it set on the menu screen, with “play movie” highlighted.

- Play this audio track on your headphones, ready to hit enter on your DVD remote when we say go.

If you synch it up right, it should be like watching a cracking old film with a bunch of your smart-arse nerd mates, minus the smell.

This Film Bin Commentary follows on from our abortive and cancelled commentary for ‘Short Circuit’ and survives despite Rich trying to make callbacks to what got the first one cancelled to begin with. Mutter mutter. We could just throw him in the sea.

Join Ant, Abi and Rich as they adoredly watch a classic movie and gibber uncontrollably in places. Open questions: Where is the movie set anyway? How much can be fitted into Johnny 5’s storage cavity? Are the little Johnny 5s scarier than the full sized one? And why, oh why, is Fisher Stevens playing an Indian?

‘Short Circuit 2’ remains on the Film Shelf, where its place should never have been doubted, and that must be due to the director Kenneth Johnson, who made the Hulk and the Bionic Woman credible and had a large influence on The Six Million Dollar Man’. Well done, Kenny.

Today marks the begin of another new project from those clever bods at MMM Commentaries.

As has been pointed out, 2013 marks the 50th year of the finest science fiction program on the planet, namely, Doctor Who.

The MMM boys are celebrating it in their own way by releasing a commentary track for eleven individual episodes, one from each Doctor.

The first episode to be released is Silver Nemesis, Episode 3. The 7th Doctor Ace, Cybermen, Germans, mad Victorian ladies and gold!

Gordon’s alive??? On this week’s GFR Carlos and the Steves continue their journey through the 80s providing a commentary over the camp classic that is Flash Gordon. With its pulse pounding Queen soundtrack here’s a film that never took itself seriously and found new life on cable and home video. Filled with loud colors, over the top performances and a dubbed leading man, today’s overblown remakes could take a page from its book!

The Soulless Minions take a nostalgic look at the 1988 film Feds starring Rebecca De Mornay and Mary Gross. Feds wasn’t much of money maker and it rides on more than a few cliches but the two leads have chemistry, there’s some hijinks and romance and it’s just plain feel good fun as we put ourselves in the shoes of Ellie De Wit and Janis Zuckerman as they strive to join to the ranks of the FBI.

Hosts Adam Green and Joe Lynch welcome listeners to the Movie Crypt in this inaugural episode. Topics to be covered include a discussion of their decision to do a podcast, what the podcast will be, a look at their upcoming 2nd Season of Holliston (June 4th), a look at the upcoming release of Hatchet III (June 14th), and the trials and tribulations that go into making and promoting both a sitcom and the third entry of a slasher franchise simultaneously. For something truly special to kick off the first episode, Adam and Joe will also perform a full-length commentary track for Friday the 13th Part 2 (1981). Ever since the release of their commentary track to Friday the 13th Part 4 on Paramount’s re-release of the film in 2009, fans have been asking them to do another. Periodically on The Movie Crypt they will perform fan-commentary tracks to movies based on fan requests. Friday 2 is only the first of many to come.

We choose commentary movies on a rotation here at Film Bin, and this time we have Rich’s choice to continue the ‘No Retreat No Surrender’ series. We present our commentary for ‘No Retreat No Surrender 2’! It’s kind of interesting to have an anthology of movies under the same name and direction but which are narratively disconnected. Join Rich, Oli and Abi as we go over the movie.

What happens if your lead actors pull out and renege on their contracts, prompting rewrites and recasting near the beginning of production? Does Loren Avedon pull off an ultimately unsympathetic character? Why that yellow top? Why the bizarre tonal dissonance between the first part of the movie and the rest? Was that meal a gag on Soo-Lin’s part? We never got around to making a Film Bin judgement call for this episode but it would probably have stayed in the Film Bin shoebox of questionable bridging movies in series.

Oli goes off on a strange and unconnected Muppet tangent at one point, and may have been in the middle of an episode. Disregard and carry on if you can, and the sonar ping near the end signifies one major cut during the credits for technical reasons. It was a strange commentary to make, especially as Rich was outnumbered by two people who were, at best, in the strangest of moods. He did well to soldier on regardless.

On this a lonely Thursday night JSB got bored and called in friend of the show Josh Teeter to cut a fan commentary track for Stuart Gordon’s cult masterpiece of pink goo and head eating 1986’s FROM BEYOND. So put on your brown tighty whities, put your .44 Magnum in your shoulder holster, cook up some brains and give yourselves a giant brain boner, cause it’s time to get Jeffry’d.

Turns out hilarious re-imaginings of classic Hitchcock movies aren’t just for James Nguyen! They even dug up the original Norman Bates (aka, Anthony Perkins, you may know him from his other work in just kidding, obviously, just kidding) and his momma (quite literally) for this one! Not to mention the Motel and roadside homestead, and even the iconic shower scene! Because, when you see a timeless thriller beloved by millions, the thing you want most is to follow it with a sequel 22 years later that pays homage by just whizzing all over it in every way possible.

Norman gets released home to his family crime scene with some help from psychiatrist Robert Loggia, who’s tough and cool as always, but utterly inept as a psychiatrist. Despite the fact that Norman’s killing spree would’ve made national news, with college kids wearing ironic t-shirts of him in his mother’s dress by now, very few folks in his sleepy hometown seem to remember him at all. And those that do are eager to give him a job, or, in the case of Meg Tilly, go back to his home and spend the night, just for funsies. Only Dennis Franz (and, presumably, his bare bottom) is suspicious of the man who IS STILL OBVIOUSLY INSANE. But hey, who knows, maybe Norman’s fine now? JUST KIDDING, OBVIOUSLY, JUST KIDDING, HE’S STILL NUTS AND TELLS THEM SO HIMSELF MULTIPLE TIMES.
