A complete waste of time. Out of three commentators, one makes lame and puerile jokes while interrupting the other two every few seconds to complain that he has never seen the movie. The other male commentator talks over the one participant (Connie?) who has actually read the books and has something to contribute. Why anyone would choose to do the extended version when they have absolutely nothing worthwhile or funny to say boggles the mind. This is the first fan commentary track that I have aborted after only ten minutes or so.

Just listened to the beginning of this. The audio is a little wobbly at times, but it's just a big drinking game, so it doesn't matter much. There's some pretty funny observational stuff, particularly about Gandalf.

The reason Bilbo doesn't see the Eye of Sauron when he puts on the ring at the party is because it's the first time he's done it since Sauron returned. That's the moment Sauron notices the ring's location and only then does he start actively searching for it.

Probably the best commentary ever! Can't wait for the next two. Though I'm going to wait to listen to them until all three are out so I can have a marathon.

The only thing I noticed they got wrong is that the "Concerning Hobbits" stuff they said was hard to get through is not from Chapter One. It's from the Prologue which is pretty clearly meant to give you more background info on Hobbits and is not necessary to read. It actually comes before the "Fellowship of The Ring" title page and the "Book 1" title page and is therefore not part of the story (it's along the lines of the Appendices).
The real Chapter One deals with things like the Hobbits preparing for the party and gossiping about how Frodo's parents died. It is probably the easiest one to read as it is more like "The Hobbit" than the rest of the book.

Also, there is a more direct antagonism between Legolas and Gimli if you know that Gimli's father Gloin, and several other relatives, were held captive by Legolas's father in The Hobbit.

Can't wait to find the time again to watch all three in one sitting and listen to this. Watched all with family (my wife and two kids) the first weekend ROTK was released.
FOTR and Two Towers extended DVDs and then straight to a 4:00pm matinee for ROTK (still need to kick it and watch all 3 ext. cuts) Good times, kids were perfect ages and into it. Memories for a lifetime...

This was a crazy idea, and it could have easily derailed, but Down In Front somewhat amazingly manages to keep it together for 13 hours. It would have been enough for these to have simply happened, it's incredible that they're as good as they are. This is just part one of a series of amazing commentaries. Good work all around.
