I’ve been listening to a good number of commentaries over the past few months, and it’s clear to me that these guys are the best in the biz. I know that’s not some sort of big revelation, but it’s still worth noting.

This commentary is a good example why. Their knowledge of the technical aspects of filmmaking is matched only by their critical analysis. Keep up the good work.

These guys definitely hate this movie, but it’s not entirely clear why. Most of their complaints are about nitpicky surface level stuff. Not much in the way of hardcore analysis. Most of the jokes fall flat. There’s also a decent amount of homophobia, but their comments are so naive and ignorant that I can’t really imagine anyone being offended by them.

Rather rambling work by Commentary Track Stars. They quickly drift off into White Sox, Star Wars, and video games. Eventually (about 27 minutes in) they do some very good genuine analysis and later consider an Alien TV series. They talk a lot about the other movies but actually very little about the one they’re watching. Then they spend 10 or 15 minutes talking about an Aliens game that doesn’t exist. That’s when I stopped listening.

The alien isn’t the main character. We hardly see it. Alien is an ensemble story.

“Alien DNA” in 4 doesn’t have to be literal. It has to have SOME kind of genetic makeup that has to be encoded by SOME means. So saying “alien DNA” could be like saying “we need to put gas in the car” when it’s actually a Diesel, which uses Diesel fuel and not gasoline.

Very good look at the last Indy (or is it the first Mutt?) by the last Geekza (or is it the first Down in Front?). Trey hasn’t seen it before; Teague likes it; and Michael dislikes it. They love Indy in general, and have a lot of fun with it.

“Stalin’s fair-haired girl” just means that she’s favored by Stalin. “Fair-haired boy” is the more common variation, and just refers to the idea that blond hair is generally preferred, with the connotation that the preferential treatment isn’t really deserved.

Trey nails the Marlon Brando Wild One reference immediately. Bravo. Whaddaya rebellin’ against, Johnny?

Gratuitous Golem impressions at 1h, 56m.

I think Marion is wearing ivory at the end; that’s the traditional color of second marriages.

Great work from Down in Front. I think they’re watching the theatrical cut. Some good technical analysis on the miniatures and Ultraslime and so on. Some nice analysis of the story and pacing and self-destruct mechanisms. And, at the end, some hilarious analysis of the story from the alien’s perspective. And almost no crosstalk this time.
