This was one of my first commentaries. I’ll admit it wasn’t a good one. But one day I’ll do a better one. But since then, I’ve gotten better. Perhaps you could check out my Pete’s Dragon or The Haunted Mansion commentaries. I did a better job with those than with Darby O’Gill.

Excellent scholarly work from Rob. I’ve been waiting for someone to do a commentary on this and I was not disappointed. Rob is quickly becoming one of my top fan commentators.
Any chance of doing a commentary on True Grit, Rob?

I would also love to see some collaboration with commentators like Sofa Dogs, Soulless Minions, Tysto, Track Stars, Sean Pultz etc. The group commentaries always seem to bring out the best in all of the commentators.

I like Friday the 13th Part 6 too and it does feature Harry Manfredini’s best score as a composer. I like part 2 for what it is…being a Jason movie without a hockey mask. Part 3 is a classic, but I wish someone would do a commentary for part 3 and dedicate it to Richard Brooker (who played Jason in part 3 and died a month ago). I would have done it myself, but I already did two commentaries on that movie and I’m not sure if you could post more than 2 commentaries on the same movie. My tribute to Richard Brooker is in the second Jason X commentary. Right now The Great Outdoors is my second favorite John Candy film with Spaceballs right behind it. I will check out Planes, Trains, and Automobiles one day.

Just listened to this—it's a good, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic commentary. Props to Sean for calling out the fact that John Bloom (the actor who plays the bumbling slots manager Don Ward) was also "Joe Bob Briggs" from TNT's old late-nite show Monster Vision. I've pointed this out to people before, and they never knew what the bloody hell I was talking about.

The one scene I found funny in The Great Outdoors was when Candy had the bears on the roof of his car, other than that it felt like a lazy stop gap between Planes, Trains and Automobiles and Uncle Buck for John Hughes and John Candy looked bored. Dan Ackroyd had absolutely nothing to work with and the romance between John Candys son and the local girl added absolutely nothing to the movie. You really need to see Planes Trains and Automobiles by the way it’s truly hilarious and for my money has John Candys best performance. As for Friday the 13th, I quite like Part 8 but my personal favourite is Part 6. I’d probably have Part 2 second and Part 3 third.

Sorry, but I’ve never seen Planes, Trains, and Automobiles so I can’t say anything about it good or bad. I’ve seen Summer Rental once, but I need to see it again to get a better opinion of it. One other thing: I’m also the same guy that ranks Return of the Jedi as the best Star Wars movie, then Star Wars, and then Empire Strikes Back along with Friday the 13th Part 8 being the best followed by part 10 and part 3. Once in awhile we need someone that sticks out like a sore thumb. With the Great Outdoors, what more do you need like John Candy eating a huge steak, a bear getting shot in the rear end, or John Candy doing some water skiing? Granted I’m not a huge fan of the twin sisters, but other than that it is a good John Candy film.

Can’t believe you rank this as your second favourite John Candy Film after Uncle Buck. Planes Trains and Automobiles and Summer Rental are so much better. This film is awful and I’m a huge Candy, Ackroyd and John Hughes fan.

Friends in Your Head take a cold, hard look at the Universal monster mash-up and pronounce it undead on arrival. Some of them like it well enough, and there’s some genuine analysis in addition to the mockery and a bit of background.

Quite good for a first attempt.

Poufwa takes a look at the first Farscape in preparation for the many, many future commentaries… that they never did. Good fun, but it’s mostly observation and nostalgia.

They don’t know who Kent “Adam 12″ McCord is.

They debate the value of a helmet in space. (There’s a lot of turbulence, so a helmet might keep you from injuring your head.)

Good work from DVD PodBlast. Despite the slow start, they get worried that it’s going to turn into a good movie. But by the third act, they’re just talking about candy. Then, in a shocking twist, by the end, they’re rooting for the main characters and giving them advice.

GeekFest takes a solid look at the ’80s sci-fi thriller. Good work.

Revisiting this, it’s hilarious how Frank starts out misusing his helicopter to invade someone’s privacy, and as soon as he gets Blue Thunder, he immediately invades someone else’s privacy. He’s a terrible cop.

You’re welcome. As tribute to Richard Brooker, I did a Jason X commentary; although Richard was in part 3 and not part 10. In a way, Richard’s death does tie in to Jason because he died on Kane Hodder’s birthday, who played Jason in Jason X. I thought it was a good idea to dedicate a commentary in Richard’s memory. I’m hoping someone comes along and does a commentary for part 3 and does it in his memory.

The “Fake Shemp” credits are a reference to the double used to complete Shemp Howard’s unfinished scenes in four shorts after he died in 1955. When Raimi needed doubles on The Evil Dead due to various actors leaving the project or not being available at the time, he credited them as a “Fake Shemp”. He now uses the Shemp credit for any doubles or stand-ins, and also for unnamed characters (Bruce was credited as “Final Shemp” in Darkman, where he played the final Darkman disguise). The new Evil Dead film also uses Shemp as a credit.
