It’s great that there’s another commentary about discussing how under-rated this film is. Like dvdcommentaries’s other franchise commentaries this uses the film as a starting point point to discuss all things Ghostbusters including the cartoon and video games.

It is however the second best Ghostbusters II commentary as I think the RCUK commentary is just a bit superior, but there’s no shame in that.

To be fair, this was recorded before AVATAR was released. If and when we commentate that film, you’ll find we agree with you. As of the GB2 commentary, we were merely defending the point that theoretically, there’s nothing wrong with it if done well. Just kinda wasn’t, turns out.

Great commentary from Down in Front on the less-than-awesome sequel. They try to rewrite the movie and write Ghostbusters 3. There's a hilarious discussion of whether you should worship a talking painting immediately or somewhat later. Major nerdery thruout. (Boys, you're scaring the straights.) I agree that it's okay for Avatar to basically be Dances With Wolves (and The Last Samurai; and Pocahontas; and Fern Gully) in space, but it's a lousy version of it. The characters are cardboard cutouts (mean general; greedy industrialist; caring scientist; native princess; etc.) and the pacing is slow as hell. It takes an hour-and-a-half to get to step 2 of the protagonist's mission (get natives to leave). Worse, the aliens look like blue people with appliances on their noses—why even do CG characters? Very good stuff from DVDC.co.uk. They like it perhaps a bit more than it deserves, but that’s better than hating it more than it deserves. There’s a really good discussion of the use of color in film.

Ben Stein’s name is pronounced “stine” rather than “steen.” He had his own gameshow in Comedy Central for a while where he was a permanent contestant and Jimmy Kimmel was the host.
